Yes, it is. It is possible to study in Sweden for free. However, we need to make check WHAT are you going to study in Sweden and WHERE you come from, so you can be sure it will be for free.
First Step: Check what are you going to study in Sweden for free
Studying in Sweden for free depends on what are you going to study. Why?, because if you plan to study a Bachelor’s or a Master, or a Ph.D., or a Course, or the Swedish Language, all of them depend on the Second Step.
Second Step: Check if you are a citizen of a country from the EU/EEA
For Bachelor and Masters
If you are a citizen of a country from the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland, you don’t have to pay tuition fees for Bachelor´s or Master´s programs in Sweden.
For more information about tuition fees for Bachelor´s and Master´s, you can check more information in University Admissions at this link.
For Ph.D
For Ph.D., it doesn´t matter where you come from, you don´t have to pay tuition fees for a Ph.D. Ph.D. programs are actually considered employment in Sweden, so you actually receive a salary when you do a Ph.D. or Postdoc.
For Courses
For Courses, this depends on which type of course. If it is a university course, and you are from the EU/EEA, you don’t have to pay, but if it’s a course from another institution that is considered fully private, you have to pay.
For Swedish language
For the Swedish language, it doesn’t matter where you come from, you can find free courses or paid courses. For free courses, you can find more information with SFI Svenska för Invandrare (Swedish for immigrants) at this link. For paid courses, we recommend visiting Folksuniversitet at this link.
